Britannia Pier is one of two piers at Great Yarmouth, a traditional pleasure pier with a theatre, amusement arcade and food outlets at the seafront. It sits at the heart of the Golden Mile, Yarmouth's famous seafront strip of amusements and attractions.
The story of Great Yarmouth Britannia Pier
A wooden jetty stood on the site from 1858, replaced by a proper pier opened in 1878 designed by J. W. Wilson. The pier was extended in 1885 and a pavilion was added in 1894 to stage variety entertainment. The pier suffered two major fires: in 1899 the original wooden structure burned down, and in 1954 a fire destroyed the pier head buildings, both of which were rebuilt. The current pavilion dates from a 1956 rebuild and has hosted big-name acts from the Beatles-era pop stars to modern comedians. A further fire in 2010 damaged the theatre but it was restored.

Open daily in the main season, the pier hosts big-name comedy and music acts in its theatre — check the programme for what's on. It is at the busy end of the seafront, so expect crowds in summer and pair a visit with the nearby Wellington Gardens and seafront amusements.
