This accessibility statement explains how The UK Coast (theukcoast.co.uk) approaches digital accessibility and how to report issues.

Our commitment

We aim to make The UK Coast usable for as many people as possible. This includes:

• Readable contrast: text and background colours are chosen to meet WCAG AA contrast ratios.
• Visible focus states: keyboard navigation produces a clear focus outline on all interactive elements.
• Responsive layout: the site adapts from mobile to desktop without horizontal scrolling.
• Semantic structure: pages use proper heading hierarchy (one H1 per page, no skipped levels) and landmark regions.
• Image alt text: all photographs include descriptive alternative text.
• Reduced motion: the site respects the prefers-reduced-motion browser setting.

Known limitations

• The nation filter on hub pages relies on JavaScript. If JavaScript is disabled, all entries are shown but filtering is not available. We are exploring a progressive enhancement approach for a future update.

• The page address (URL) where you encountered the problem.
• A brief description of the issue and how it affects you.
• The browser and device you are using.

Standards reference

This statement is informed by the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 AA. A formal WCAG audit has not yet been conducted, but we have designed the site with these guidelines in mind and will address any issues raised by users.
