The story of Felixstowe Pier
The original Felixstowe Pier was opened in 1905, designed by the Pier and Engineering Company and extending 4,000 feet out to sea with a pavilion and steamer landing stage. The pier declined after the Second World War and was progressively shortened, with the seaward end removed entirely in the 1970s leaving just a short stub. In 2016 the pier was redeveloped with a new pavilion building designed by AHR Architects, opening as a family entertainment centre with a restaurant, bowling and amusements, replacing much of the Victorian structure.
Visiting with care
Open year-round, the pier is now primarily an indoor leisure venue with amusements, a restaurant and views over the Suffolk coast. It is on Felixstowe's seafront promenade, convenient for the town's gardens and beach.
