Cleethorpes Pier is a Victorian pier on the Lincolnshire coast, shortened from its original length and now housing the Pier Family Entertainment Centre. Its recent renovation has made it a year-round attraction with amusements and dining.
The story of Cleethorpes Pier
The pier was opened in 1873, designed by J. W. Wilson and built by the Cleethorkes Pier Company to a length of 1,200 feet as a promenade and steamer landing. The pier was progressively shortened after storm damage, and a major fire in 1903 destroyed the original pier head pavilion. A new pavilion was built but the pier's seaward end was removed entirely in the 1930s leaving a shorter structure. The pier was refurbished in 2005 and again in 2016, reopening as a family entertainment centre with a restaurant, arcade and function space.
Visiting with care
Open year-round, the pier is now primarily an indoor entertainment venue with a large restaurant, amusements and regular events. It is on Cleethorpes seafront, convenient for the beach and the town's other attractions.
