Blackpool South Pier is the youngest and shortest of the town's three piers, renowned for its adrenaline rides including a skycoaster and a bungee. It sits at the quieter end of the promenade near the Sandcastle Waterpark.
The story of Blackpool South Pier
South Pier was opened in 1893, designed by Charles T. Hurst and built at the southern end of the promenade to serve the growing residential south shore. Originally called Victoria Pier, it was built to capitalise on the popularity of the resort but was always smaller than its siblings. The pier suffered a serious fire in 1958 that destroyed the landing stage and shoreward buildings, and was rebuilt with a new amusement arcade. In the 1990s the pier was redeveloped with extreme rides, including a skycoaster that launches riders over the sea.
Visiting with care
Open daily year-round with free admission, the pier is best for thrill-seekers thanks to its adrenaline rides including the Adrenaline Zone. It is quieter than Central Pier and convenient for the Sandcastle Waterpark and the Pleasure Beach, which are both close by.
